Oh Lord!

I was raised in the South.  I was raised going to church every Sunday.  I even went to church camp and was a part of my youth group.  I was a good Texas girl.  But to be honest, I always questioned Christianity and the whole belief in one God.  Or any gods.  Especially as I educated myself about all religions.

I could go on and on about the hypocrisy that I see is rampant in organized religion.   I can also go on and on about how I have really doubted that there is a god ever since I saw this one episode of Star Trek Next Generation - "Who Watches the Watchers."  It is a fabulous episode, even if you don't like Star Trek or science fiction.  If you really want to know what I am talking about, you can watch it here and here.

Yes, I am a dork.  And I love it everyday.

I also love the video below everyday.  It is about the belief/non-belief in god and how people who do not believe in god are not evil, horrible people. It also talks about how atheists beliefs differ within athesim as well (Just like Protestant vs Catholic; Sunni vs Shia; Orthodox vs Reform; I could go on and on).  I feel like I am not doing a very good job of explaining it, so you should just watch it.  It is 10 minutes long, but doesn't feel like it.

Also, please don't assume that I think badly of those who do believe in god.  I feel that a belief in a religion/god or not having a belief in one is a person's inherent right and that they should not be persecuted for their beliefs nor should they persecute others who believe differently from them.  Religious or not, I believe in the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  You don't have to be religious to have morals.  Some of the most immoral things I have seen, have been done by "God fearing, religious people."

Amen. ;)

that video is superb. I watched the entire thing. I think the mistake my Catholic high school made was forcing us to take the class "World Religions" ...which is when I actually became interested in and questioned what I was taught to believe in - and what other religions believed in as well.

Over time, I too became an atheist -though I absolutely hate that word because of exactly what the little video demonstrated. It can mean so many things ...and to "believers" {who in my mind just believe what was passed down to them and never actually think about what it is they believe} being an "atheist" is so negative. Like you're a bad person if you don't believe ...and you'll do "bad" things. Though almost every war has been in the name of GOD. And how can "they", if it is GOD they believe in, wrap their heads around that? ...right, they don't.

Sorry for the novel :)
